Free-Association is the amazingly effective process that enables people to completely and permanently resolve the unconscious causes of their anxiety, depression, eating disorder, phobia or other emotional or psychological problem.
Free Association is one of the most misunderstood of all therapeutic techniques, and yet, when administered correctly, is profoundly effective. The aim of this course is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to practice Free-Association successfully. The therapy, and more importantly, how to practice it, will be described in detail - the majority of the training will consist of listening to, and analysing, pre-recorded therapy sessions. Many different recordings, of various clients, at different stages of the therapeutic process will be studied in order to understand what most helps and hinders the therapeutic process.
Some of the topics discussed will be:
- Why is ‘FA’ so successful, where other interventions fail?
- The many ways that both the client (and therapist) can sabotage therapy
- The effects of denial, dissociation, disavowel and grooming upon therapy
- How to explain FA to your clients, and what to say if they get ‘stuck’
- Learn when to talk, and when to stay quiet. What are the right things to say?
- Understand what ‘true’ or ‘pure’ Free Association REALLY is
- How to help a client to abreact, and to release their bottled-up emotions
- Learn to spot red herrings, and use techniques like ‘automatic writing and drawing’
- Learn why this technique the most natural and holistic of ALL therapies
- How to use ‘clean’ and ‘reflective’ language effectively
- Understand ‘recovered memory’, false-memory, and the law
- Recognise the effects of distorted thinking and ‘normalisation’ on therapy
Rob Kelly FIAPH will present this dynamic and empowering course, which is open to any practicing therapists, or therapists in training. The content of the course will be quite explicit at times, and traumatic events may well be discussed in great depth.
